Free Download of Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst

For those interested in playing a classic MMORPG, Sega is currently offering free downloads of the beta version of Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst on their web site. For those unfamiliar with Phantasy Star Online, it was a must own title for the Dreamcast back in 2000, and has the honor of being the first real console MMORPG. Since it's inital release we've seen several ports; first on the Gamecube, and then on the XBox. Now, with the brand new Phantasy Star Universe for the PS2 is set to debut this winter, Sega has decided to milk every last penny out of the original title one more time. The good news? It isn't going to cost you a dime.

If you want to download the game from Sega's website, just click here. However, if you use BitTorrent, I strongly suggest downloading the file using that by clicking here. Thanks to the sheer number of people taking advantage of this and thereby clogging up the server, you're looking at spending the better part of a day downloading it from Sega's website.

And just as a heads up, you're going to want to take a look at the keyboard layout and manual in the downloads section of the website. The game lacks any form of tutorial, and the controls aren't exactly standard MMORPG fare. Meh - what do you expect? The game was designed for a controller. The transition to keyboard wasn't exactly graceful.

  • Great video game, i love the Phantasy Star Online...
